10 Best Not-So-Scary Halloween Events For Kids

It is never too early to start planning for spooktacular times, and this October there are so many exciting events from face painting, pumpkin carving, spooky houses, and trick-or-treating!

Spend your weekends getting in the Halloween spirit, any of these events will do the trick.

1. ZOOtoberfest – San Francisco

Go on an adventure in “Harvest Hallow” for access to new and exciting attractions. Navigate through San Francisco’s largest hay maze, a 5,000-square-foot structure made from 600 bales of straw and incorporates play areas within the design. Free with paid admission to San Francisco Zoo & Gardens!

When- Every weekend in October 11am-3pm

2. Goblin Jamboree – Sausalito

Don your best costumes and celebrate Halloween at the Bay Area Discovery Museum’s Goblin Jamboree. This year’s theme is Witches and Wizards and we’ve pulled together a cauldron of spooky themed programs and activities to entertain your entire family.

When- Saturday & Sunday October 20th-21st, 2018 10am-4pm

3. The Great Pumpkin Fest – Santa Clara

The Great Pumpkin Fest includes Halloween activities for kids and the entire family. Kids 12 and under can wear their costumes and Trick-or-Treat with the PEANUTS Gang, race through a hay maze, decorate mini pumpkins, color PEANUTS pictures, dance in a foam pit and more.

When- October 6th, 13th, 14th, 27th, and 28th, 2018 10am-5:30pm

4. Halloween Hoopla Parade & Spooky Carnival – Menlo Park

Come in costume and participate in the parade to Fremont Park. Participants will receive a bag to trick-or-treat through Downtown Menlo Park at participating stores. Fremont Park will also host carnival games, crafts, and magic show from 11am to 2pm.

Afterwards from 4pm to 6pm join in at the Onetta Harris Community Centre for the carnival! Enjoy fun games, yummy snacks, face painting, costume contest, and more.

5. Supernatural Halloween – San Francisco

Grab your favorite costume and have yourself a ghoulishly good time as you trick-or-treat your way through the Academy at night among spooktacular animals and spine-tingling specimens! There will be magic shows, face painting, crafts, dancing, pumpkin carving, and much much more.

When- Saturday October 27th, 2018 5pm-9pm

6. Howl-ooo-ween – Walnut Creek

Trick or treat with the animals at Lindsay Wildlife Experience’s most popular event! Show up in costume and enjoy face painting, a costume parade, spooky story time, and the Arachnid Arcade, followed by visiting some of the resident animals. This year’s event features a Mad Scientist room!

When- Thursday October 25th, 2018 5:30pm-8pm

7. Kids’ Show at Yerba Buena Gardens – San Francisco

Enjoy interactive performances and games for kids under 10 and their parents, and the return of the Yerba Buena Pumpkin Patch display! The program culminates in the eagerly awaited Halloween Costume Parade, where everyone is welcome to show off their Halloween costumes.

When- Sunday October 28th, 2018 from Noon-2pm

8. Monster Bash – Mountain View

Everyone is invited to this free family event! With great crafts, games, prizes, and more, be sure to throw on your best costumes and bring your whole family and friends for a scary good time.

When- Saturday October 27th, 2018 from 1pm-3pm

9. Boo at the Zoo – Oakland

Stroll the Zoo in costume and collect yummy treats. Ride the spooky boo train and join the dance party. Plus, get your face painted, make treats for the animals, and see how the animals at Oakland Zoo celebrate Halloween. Kids in costumes receive a free ride ticket.

When- Weekend of October 27th-28th, 2018 from 10am-3pm

10. The Pumpkin Train – Los Gatos

The train runs through the pumpkin patch at the Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad. Pick from a variety of locally grown pumpkins, then enjoy evening rides on the train and carousel!

When- Fridays through Sundays, 5:30pm-8:30pm in October
